問うに落ちず語るに落ちるとはつまりうっかりと口を滑らせて自分で墓穴を掘ってしまうことです。spill the beans（秘密を漏らす）かもしれないし、a slip of the tongueかも知れないのですが、結局は自分で自分の首を絞めてしまうことなのでincriminate oneself by spilling the beansのことです。あるいはshoot oneself in the footかも知れません。
